Your day with Northern Pursuit

Good water.
Good company.
Let’s go fish.

A private boat. Up to four of your people. A day on northern Michigan water.

Step aboard, get settled, and let’s go find something to tug on.

We’ll meet at the agreed launch, go over the plan and a quick safety rundown, then head out. Rods, bait, tackle, and nonalcoholic drinks are already covered—bring your layers, your crew, and a little excitement for that first bite.

On the bay, we’ll work the jigs and watch the electronics. Out of Frankfort, we’ll get the trolling spread fishing and keep an eye on the rods. Jack will walk you through the setup, help with your technique, and adjust as the conditions change.

New to it? You’re welcome here. Fish all the time? Let’s talk fishing. There’s room for questions, a few laughs, and enjoying the water between bites. When a rod loads up, you’ll be right in the action.

Before you go

A few good questions.

What’s the difference between jigging and trolling?+

On our Grand Traverse Bay lake trout jigging trips, you work the lure yourself while Jack helps you read the electronics and adjust your technique. On our Frankfort salmon trolling trips, we fish a spread of rods as the boat moves across Lake Michigan. Beginners are welcome on either trip.

How much is a private lake trout jigging charter?+

Morning and afternoon lake trout jigging trips are $700 for your entire group of 1–4 guests, not per person. Both trips are five hours; the afternoon trip runs from 4–9 p.m. Eastern. After Jack approves your date, the $150 deposit goes toward that total. Request your fishing date.

What’s included in a charter?+

Your private trip includes rods, bait, tackle, and nonalcoholic drinks for up to 4 guests. The trip price covers everyone in your group.

Do I need a Michigan fishing license?

Yes. Anglers age 17 and older are required to have a valid Michigan fishing license. A $10 Michigan 1-Day All-Species Fishing License is an easy option if you don’t already have a valid license. It is valid for 24 hours and is available to Michigan residents and nonresidents. Choose a start time that covers your trip.

Please purchase your license before your trip and have it available while fishing. Fishing licenses are not included in your charter and are not provided by Northern Pursuit Sportfishing or the captain.

What should we bring?+

Bring weather-ready layers, rain gear, non-marking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and any snacks you’d like. Anglers age 17 and older must bring a valid Michigan fishing license, purchased before the trip.

What happens if weather changes the plan?+

Your captain makes the final safety decision. If we cancel before departure, choose a full refund or reschedule. Read our full booking and cancellation policy.

Where do we meet?+

Salmon trolling departs from Frankfort. Lake trout and Cisco jigging trips fish Grand Traverse Bay. Jack will confirm the exact launch location when arranging your trip. Please arrive 15 minutes before departure.

How do deposits work?+

Wait for Jack to approve your date, then Pay $150 deposit through GoDaddy. Include your name and trip date in the payment note. Your reservation is confirmed once Jack verifies the payment. The deposit applies toward your total. View the cancellation policy.

Can beginners come along?+

Absolutely. The trip format is built to make the day fun and understandable whether it’s your first rod or your hundredth.
